Garmin have recently entered the GPS tracking market with a cheap portable GPS tracker device. They describe it as a GPS locator that lets you track the things you value online with a web-based system allowing you to keep a close eye on your kids, pets, and property (although perhaps the best use would be your car). If you want the best GPS tracking for children then Garmin are probably the first choice considering the fact they are the number one GPS manufacturer in the world. We managed to get hold of a GTU 10 tracker for a week and road tested the device in order to see if it really works and how easy it is to use.
Garmin GTU 10 Review
What we love about this GPS tracking device is the fact that it comes with a free Garmin Tracker app meaning you can even track whilst you are on the move via text messages and SMS straight to your cell and mobile phone. Recent products by Garmin have become more and more compatible with smartphones and the GTU 10 is no exception. Being able to find out where you tracking device is at any given point in time is essential and we attached our GTU to our car to see how well it works.
It’s really easy to start tracking property and cars with the Garmin GTU 10 once you’ve attached it. All you need to do is set up boundaries (also known as geo fences) using the Garmin web application. If your Garmin GTU 10 Tracker breaks those invisible lines you will get a text message alerting you straight to your phone. We drove our car outside of the geo fence that we set up and within 30 seconds had an SMS coming straight through to us so it’s pretty quick.
Use as a Child’s GPS Tracking Device
Here’s another example of how you can use the Garmin GTU 10 device. You can send your children off to school in the morning with the Garmin Tracker in their bag. By setting up a boundary around their school, or as Garmin call it, a “Geofence” then you can also use exactly the same logic when tracking cars and trucks – this truly is a fantastic GPS vehicle tracking system when compared to other products we have seen in the market. Being a Garmin product also gives it a greater element of trust too because they are the World’s number one GPS company so should know how to make reliable GPS tracking devices.
The Garmin GTU 10 Tracker is very small, measuring just 7.8 centimeters which means you can easily attach it to a child’s rucksack, or place it discreetly in your vehicle. During our tests we placed ours on the dashboard of our car, but you could probably strap it under the bumper where it would be discreet.
In terms of using the web application to create and monitor your GTU 10 and the geofences you set up then you will need to register the device on their tracking app website.
